Our Program

Our Envirothon group of students meets on Tuesday from 9:30-11:30 in Monroe. While in class the students focus on digging deeper into the five topics of Envirothon, conduct experiments and dissections, and take assessments to prepare for competition.

Classes

Our parent-led program ensures that every parent has a role to play in our group's success. From writing tests to teaching lessons, every parent has an assignment that supports our students. Our participants learn not only about the information in their Envirothon manuals, but also become confident public speakers and strengthen their ability to work as part of a team.

Field Trips

Our students benefit greatly from the multiple field trips we take each year. In the past they have visited college campuses, toured a paper plant, met with a lithium company, and hiked many trails, just to name a few. We even plan weekend camping groups to fully immerse ourselves in nature for a few days.

Junior Envirothon

We will offer third, fourth and fifth graders a gentle, guided introduction into the Envirothon program. Students will be led through one of the five topics by two teachers and will also join the older students for part of their day to gain knowledge on CEI and other relevant facts. The group will perform a dissection, give presentations, and work on study skills. This program will be for any third, fourth, and fifth grader that is able to read independently and out loud in a group setting, able to write their own notes (with some guidance), and able to sit in a classroom setting with appropriate behavior. The goal is to give the students tools and build their confidence so they are ready for the challenge of our middle and high school academic programs.

**Our elementary and junior Envirothon programs are for the siblings of our enrolled middle and high school students. Younger students must have an enrolled older sibling to participate in the program.**

Young Siblings Program

We have a program for young siblings. Each week our young students listen to story books, recite memory work and have time to play with each other. Our parent-led program features weekly games, crafts and outside play time.

Regional Competition

Around December students are put on their competition teams. The groups of five work to study and gain as much knowledge as they can before the regional competition, which is usually held around April in Statesville. The top seven teams from the regional competition will go on to compete in the state championship.

State Competition

Any of our teams that make the top seven from regionals will compete in the Envirothon state competition, which is typically held around early May. The teams compete against the top-performing students from across the state. Our middle and high school teams have a history of doing well. In 2024 one of our high school teams was ranked second in the state.
